Jim Stem on assignment in Florida Straits

Jim Stem has been a working photojournalist since 1981 when he joined the Citrus County Chronicle in Inverness. In 1984 he became a staff photographer with the St. Petersburg Times and transferred to the Tampa bureau in 1986. In 2001 he created Jim Stem Photography based in Tampa, and now freelances for domestic and international clients throughout Florida, including the Poynter Institute for Media Studies.

Jim has received many awards during his 23 years as a photojournalist including numerous clip contests from the National Press Photographers Association, awards from the Florida Association of Newspapers Editors, and a nomination for the Pulitzer Prize.

Jim is a versatile and experienced document-style photographer who is proficient with 35mm digital as well as film. Accepting a wide variety of assignments throughout Florida including news, editorial, feature, sports, environmental and fashion, Jim is a seasoned location photojournalist who can handle assignments on a deadline.
